Headlines from Research IT Club Meeting

At the recent Research IT Club meeting Simon Hood listed some up-coming infrastructure improvements. More details available from him, but in summary...

    • Please help the UoM Research Lifecycle Project to know about your infrastructure requirements.
    • The University is doing a European-level tender for a major Campus Network upgrade.
    • The Jisc Data Vault is being used as an Interim Data Archive.
    • Research VMs are being made more resilient by adding a fail-over service. After this upgrade, VMs should not be down for longer than a few minutes following primary hardware failure.
    • A subset of the N8 universities, including, UoM, will have access to a 4000 core machine housed at Durham. Also cloud computing for researchers is under investigation, using either Azure or AWS.
