Christmas Closure - Operational information - CompSci

    Dear all

As we reach the Christmas Closure period - please note the procedure if anyone does intend to come into Kilburn/IT Building. We encourage staff/PGRs to take a break at Christmas but recognise there may be some who require access to the Buildings for work/project reasons.

There is a risk assessment template for out of hours working here, and Staff/PGRs should be familiar with the lone working guidance advice. Please speak to your supervisor if you intend to enter the buildings over the closure period, gain their approval and confirm you have read and understood the risk assessment.

Car parking information during Christmas & New Year closure is here: Car park closures over the festive break | StaffNet | The University of Manchester

Reminder to switch off during the festive season
Our University has committed to becoming zero carbon by 2038 and, with an increased emphasis on conserving energy resources, you can play a part by switching off non-essential electrical items before Christmas and New Year. Switching off your desktop PC, lights and other office equipment before you leave could help contribute to savings in energy costs. Switch off during the festive season | StaffNet | The University of Manchester.

    Action for all colleagues

We ask that as you and your teams prepare to leave for the festive period, you carry out the following:

    • Make safe any ongoing experiments.

    • Turn off lights and equipment at the mains (wherever appropriate and safe to do so.)

    • Remove any perishables from fridges.

    • Ensure food items are not left out, either securely storing these in sealed containers or disposing of these via the green waste caddies.

    • Please ensure all waste is put in the appropriate waste or recycling bins to assist House Services colleagues in cleaning and closing up the buildings for the Christmas break.

    Action for Technical Operations Teams

For technical colleagues, please turn off and isolate any cooling water systems and/or local gas systems related to laboratory equipment and experiments where safe to do so.

Please contact your local Infrastructure and Facilities Technical Operations Manager if you have any concerns, need help or advice before turning off and isolating any systems, or think you need to maintain gas or water supply over the festive period.

A reminder of the Safezone App

Note that the Safezone app is available here - There is functionality in the app to activate a call for assistance; this call goes directly to Security. This app may also be used when there is a medical emergency.

We hope you have a nice break and enjoy the festive period.
