Artificial Intelligence MEng (Hons) - COMP22111 Processor Microarchitecture

Return to programme overview.

2.1.1 Knowledge and understanding of facts, concepts, principles & theories

The module aims to give a view of the role of a digital hardware designer, taking an idea and implementing it as a silicon chip. A processor is a representative example of logic used in today's chips, also giving further insight into how computers actually work. Students investigate leading edge approaches to processor design as well as being introduced to approaches current in the research domain.

Assesement : Examination, Lab work

2.1.2 Use of such knowledge in modelling and design

Simulation of hardware designs using commercial tools in laboratories. The use of testing as an important tool of the designer is discussed.

Assesement : Examination, Lab work

2.1.3 Problem solving strategies

Addressed in laboratory work, supported by lectures.

Assesement : Examination, Lab work

2.1.4 Analyse if/how a system meets current and future requirements

Investigation of future approaches to computing.
