Student Walkout March 14th

A student walkout is taking place on 14th March at 11am.  This will be an NUS demonstration against the "privatisation of education" and it is planned that students will walk out of lectures, join a rally at MMU and march into the city centre. The University will endeavour to maintain normal operations.  Where students have missed lectures please make sure that appropriate material is available. If any more information is received it will be passed on by email.

New Support for Research Grant Applications

We are putting in place various pieces of support to help staff members submit more grant applications. There is now a Research Office home page at:

http://www.cs.manchester.ac.uk/reso/

It contains useful information to help you to apply for grants. There are two new pages:

1. Examples of successful grants

http://www.cs.manchester.ac.uk/reso/grantapplicationexamples/
2. Information about an internal "advisory" peer review process

http://www.cs.manchester.ac.uk/reso/grantapplicationexamples/internalreviewing.php

In 1. we've gathered together some recent successful EPSRC proposals. Some are current and their owners don't wish the material to be circulated outside the school - so don't. We will be adding examples of other types of grants in the near future.

In 2. there is now a voluntary school "advisory" peer review process for grants - do use it. You just email your grant and someone will take a look and give feedback - better local feedback first than waiting until the real reviews.
