Carole Goble wins Inaugural Jim Gray eScience Award

Congratulations to Carole Goble, who was awarded the Microsoft-sponsored Jim Gray eScience Award, in recognition of the international profile of the myGrid and myExperiment projects that support the authoring and community sharing of scientific workflows. The award, which was established “to honour the innovators whose work truly makes science easier for scientists”, was presented at the 2008 Microsoft eScience Workshop in Indianapolis by Tony Hey, Corporate Vice President of the External Research at Microsoft. Further details are available <link>here - http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2008/dec08/12-12eScienceworkshop.mspx</link>.

EPSRC ICT Visit

EPSRC ICT team visited the School last week and were involved in a variety of open sessions and discussion groups. The visit went well and the team seemed impressed by the event. A copy of Liam Blackwell’s slides that outline EPSRC strategy and funding profiles in the ICT area can be found here. Local organisation was carried out by Jacqui Grant and John Gurd; thanks in particular to Jacqui for overseeing the many details associated with this multi-faceted event.
