News from Head of School
Entries for SET Awards – Outstanding
3rd Year Projects
The UK SET
Awards provide the School with a major opportunity to showcase our
best final year UG students, whilst providing them with the opportunity to
gain national recognition. Last year one of our students made it to
the final three in one of the categories – a real achievement but,
unfortunately, he was pipped at the post. This year we want to go
one better. If you have just finished supervising, or are a marker of, a
3rd year project that really stands out, please let Toby know
ASAP. The deadline for nominations is 18th July, but to
succeed we need to start preparing the case now.
Deadlines for UG Lab and Coursework
Marks
As we approach the end of the academic year we
need to ensure that all UG lab and coursework marks are entered into
ARCADE. If you are responsible for
providing marks, and still have some outstanding, please submit them as
soon as possible, and no later than the following
deadlines.
Wednesday 21st May:
all lab marks to be entered into
ARCADE books,
Wednesday 28th May:
all coursework marks to be
submitted.
If you have previously arranged to
provide coursework marks offline – either by handing hardcopy to Mike
Evans or by sending them electronically to Alan Williams or
John Latham, please
do so by 28th May. If you have any questions or believe
you may have problems in meeting these deadlines, please contact Mike
as soon as possible.
Semester 2 Exam Marks
To meet the University publication deadlines, all
semester 2 exam marks must be finalised and returned to SSO by 6th June. Please
contact Jennie or Mike
if you need more details.

Industrial Secondment
Scheme
Open
The Industrial Secondment Scheme provides an
invaluable opportunity for engineering teaching staff in Higher Education
institutions to gain state-of-the-art industrial experience.
Applicable to engineers of all disciplines, the scheme's objective is to
enable the secondees to impart the fruits of this experience to their
students through teaching, through case studies using up-to-date material
and, in the longer term, through course design. The benefits also accrue
to the host organization which gains a temporary but highly qualified
member of staff, and to the university which has the opportunity of
strengthening its links with industry.
