For this event, he will be in conversation with Bill Thompson, the well-known technology critic and commentator on digital culture. Symposium on the benefits of eLearning technologies in Engineering, Physical Sciences and Mathematics 13 April 11 On Wednesday 13th April 2011, The University of Manchester is holding a symposium that focuses on the benefits of eLearning technologies in teaching and learning, in conjunction with the Higher Education Academy Subject Centres in Engineering, Physical Sciences and Mathematics disciplines. Lecturers and Learning Technologists from the North of England and Scotland will come together to share their knowledge on how we are using online technologies in the field of teaching and learning. Several of our own colleagues at the University of Manchester will be showcasing best practices in e-Technologies. The symposium will consist of an opening plenary, 4 parallel workshop sessions with a variety of topics and presenters, and a closing plenary. The symposium will be an excellent opportunity to connect with peers from other Higher Education Institutions, and to learn how they are using eLearning to benefit student learning or improve teaching efficiency. Funding OpportunitiesRoyal Society International Exchanges Scheme 30 Jun 11 This scheme is for scientists in the UK who want to undertake a collaboration with scientists overseas through either a one off visit or a bilateral travel. This scheme is currently open to applications. There will be additional funding rounds later in the year. Details will be announced when they are available. The scheme covers all areas of the life and physical sciences, including engineering, but excluding clinical medicine. Both the UK applicant and overseas applicant must:
Collaborations should be based on a single project and travel can only take place between the UK and a country where the overseas collaborator is based. In the case of cost share applications (see below), a relationship between both parties should already be established prior to making an application. The International Exchanges Scheme is available for travel to all countries outside of the UK. Applicants should ensure that they meet all the eligibility requirements |
