Undergraduate Open Day Sat 24th
June
The first Undergraduate Open Day for 2006 is fast
approaching. I am extremely grateful to those of you who have
offered to help, but more academic staff are still needed if the event is
to be a success. The School has two 90 minute slots 1130-1300 and
1300-1430. Each slot involves a 30 minute presentation on the
attractions of studying here, a tour, demos, and a 'meet & greet'
session, where prospective students and their parents can meet staff and
existing students informally. So far we have volunteers for the demos but
we still need to staff the presentations and meet & greet
sessions. I am conscious that I am asking for volunteers at what is
already a very busy time of year when many of you are already feeling
overburdened, but the effect of falling undergraduate entries on the
School budget is a major concern. It is important that we all make
the most of every opportunity to turn things around by attracting
prospective students. If you are able to help out anytime between
1000 1600 on Saturday 24th
June please contact Sophia or Bernard in the External Affairs Office.
End of Year Results
Many thanks to all of you who worked so hard to
enable us to hold the internal examiners meeting for final year students
on Friday. It was a major achievement to meet the original deadline, in
spite of all the difficulties. I know that the major load fell on a
small number of individuals, to whom we are all grateful. It looks
as though we will be able to reach robust decisions for most, if not all,
final year students at the External Examiners Meeting tomorrow (1400,
Tuesday 20th June). We are particularly grateful to those
of you who are still working hard to finalise as many of the marks as
possible particularly to 3rd Year Lab
Organisers.
Career Development
Fellowship
The recent flurry of recruitment activity comes to
an end this week with presentations and interviews for a Career
Development Fellowship funded by the School. The details of the
talks are below, and I encourage
as many of you as possible to attend.
New Arrival
